Great question - The mix down setting combines all the various channels from your source audio into a stereo pair. A lot of devices and platforms that play AAC audio don't deal well with more than two channels, so we recommend that for the best compatibility.
Can someone tell me what AAC (Mixdown) does please as it is not in the EditReady User Manual?

Thanks for the reply but unfortunately on footage from my Canon XF100 it doesn't seem to work that way. Instead of the program combining "all the various channels from your source audio into a stereo pair", it takes each of the two Mono soundtracks and converts them into two AAC stereo tracks???
Hmm, that's odd - drop us a line at email@example.com and we can investigate further. We don't see that with XF100 footage here.
